Depending on the pet of your choice, you have many reasons to get that pet, or not to get it. When discussing the feasibility of fish at pets, they can be great for many reasons that are reasons not to get other pets.
Fishes don?t make any sound. They don?t yap at the gate for hours on end, or chirp and squawk, or make that weird wailing noise when other cats come into their yard in the middle of the night.
Fish don?t leave poop lying around for you to pick up ? in the yard, litter box or around the house. A fish doesn?t need any sort of house training, and all you have to do is clean a fish tank once a month, unlike litter boxes of dogs and cats, or hamster and bird cages that need cleaning thrice a week.
Fishes don?t shed their skin, and are more resilient when having to live with their old skin. Fishes don?t put their owners through the horrors of shedding hair ? they won?t ruin your couch, suit, upholstery or any household equipment with their old hair. A fish doesn?t know what a hairball is, or how to make one. Fishes jump in and out of the water, but not up and down on your brand new couch, and wouldn?t soil your clothes or curtains either.
Fish aren?t food thieves who raid your dinner table, and won?t ?join? you at the dinner table either. They don?t have special needs like bathing or brushing, as they have all the water they need in the tank. You don?t need to play with them or take them for walks, and as long as you feed them regularly, you can go about your daily business for several days straight. Fish don?t eat your plants, dig holes in the middle of the lawn, or lift their leg on the car tyres.
Fish are not scared of fireworks or thunder. On New Year?s Day or the Fourth of July, you don?t have to bother sedating your fishes, or worry that they aren?t in one piece anymore after returning home from a night of holiday revelry.
If you want to talk to fish, you can ? and they won?t answer back in anger. They can provide company without demanding it. It is a pleasant sight to see fishes swimming in the aquarium ? fishes that don?t need to be taken care of so often. Keeping your fishes fed is easy ? just feed them flaked food on a daily basis or twice a day, no hard-to-open cans or messy bowls that need to be cleaned up.
Unfortunately, fish aren?t too receptive ? if they are receptive at all ? to your presence. They don?t snuggle up against you, or keep your feet warm in winter. You can?t play with them ? tapping the glass does not count ? and you can?t give them a hug. Fishes won?t provide any source of comfort or affection when you need it the most, and don?t know the meaning of unconditional love. Most aquarium owners can live with this or have other pets to fill the roles fishes can?t play, so if you feel the same way, then fishes are just the pets for your needs.
