Less is Moore ? leave Demi alone!

By Pamela Sitt, TODAY.com contributor

At 49, Demi Moore is a cover girl again.

Her age-defying face covers both People and Us Weekly this week, but if you?ve been paying attention, you already know it?s for all the wrong reasons.

People, Us Weekly

Us Weekly screams, ?DESPERATE?! People warns, ?DANGER?!

Is this what Demi Moore has become? Are we turning her into Anna Nicole Smith?

Now we love celebrity gossip. If you?re here, you probably do, too. Demi?s split from Ashton, OK, that?s fair game. They spent the better part of their 6-year marriage gushing publicly about their love and tweeting pictures of themselves cuddling while watching ?Breaking Bad.?

But the 911 call? The reports of Demi convulsing on the floor? Rushed to the hospital while friends worry that she?s dead? To paraphrase that Britney fan on YouTube: "Leave Demi alone!"

Even tabloid-averse George Clooney weighed in?this week, calling the release of the 911 call "stupid." (Of course, Clooney is campaigning hard for those Oscar votes; if Brad Pitt can court the media by dropping hints about a possible Brange wedding, then Clooney?s gotta do what he?s gotta do. Right?)

Demi is said to be ?embarrassed? by all the attention. And yes, her behavior has been embarrassing. But haven't we all gotten dumped and reacted poorly, partied a little too hard and flirted with the wrong guy? The difference is, in Hollywood, there's always a camera and a tabloid reporter at the ready.

Is this what 50 looks like in Hollywood?

A prolific tweeter, @mrskutcher?-- yes, that?s still her Twitter handle?-- hasn?t made a peep since Jan. 7, when she thanked Harper?s Bazaar magazine for "supporting me." In her somewhat bittersweet profile picture, a young Demi, with bangs and glasses, smiles into the sun.

It?s time for that little girl who doesn't want to grow up to take a long vacation, to someplace warm and inviting where no one can take pictures of her in a bikini downing a Red Bull. Someplace like a private beachfront estate in Turks and Caicos, owned by a protective (and badass) ex-husband.

Bruce Willis, can you hear me?
