What do you think of the Justice Dept?s legal challenge to the AZ immigration (civil rights)?
It would SEEM if you?re willing to say this new AZ immigration law violates civil rights because it will disproportionately affect brown people, then you could you make the VERY SAME argument concerning the war on drugs?? (since most people convicted on drug charges are brown)

Seems the federal govt. just wants unlimited power??..and if they don?t want to enforce immigration laws, they feel that?s their prerogative.

What do you think??

The Obama administration will probably unveil its challenge to Arizona?s immigration law next week, administration sources tell ABC?s Jake Tapper. The challenge itself isn?t exactly news ? Secretary of State Hillary Clinton let slip to an Ecuadoran TV reporter this month that the Justice Department was ready to file suit, and a subsequent White House leak confirmed her report.

But the substance of the challenge may be newsworthy. According to Tapper?s report, the Justice suit is expected to include objections on civil rights grounds????????.A civil rights challenge could be less straightforward. The Arizona law has a section saying state authorities should not violate civil rights while enforcing it. It also stipulates that law enforcement must abide by federal standards that forbid racial discrimination and profiling. ?This section shall be implemented in a manner consistent with federal laws regulating immigration, protecting the civil rights of all persons and respecting the privileges and immunities of United States citizens,? it says.

The American Civil Liberties Union, spearheading a coalition of other civil rights groups, has already mounted a civil rights challenge to the law, charging that it ?invites racial profiling against people of color by law enforcement in violation of the equal protection guarantee and prohibition on unreasonable seizures under the 14th and Fourth Amendments; and infringes on the free-speech rights of day laborers and others in Arizona.?

If the law violates civil rights, then it needs to be struck down.

Isn?t that the way things have been for quite a while?
