STRONGSVILLE- The union representing 385 Strongsville teachers could issue a strike notice at a just-announced press conference scheduled for 6:15 p.m. Feb. 21.

In an email, the Strongsville Education Association? said the press conference - which will take place at the Strongsville High School auditorium 45 minutes before the Board of Education meets in the media center - will "provide details on its current labor dispute with the Board of Education and to announce its plans for a potential strike."

It will be open to union members and members of the media only.

The teachers union overwhelmingly approved a strike authorization Feb. 15. If the union issues the district a strike notice at the press conference, teachers could strike as early as March 4.

Ongoing negotiations have been at a standstill, as displayed at the board's Feb. 7 work session and Jan. 17 regular meeting, as hundreds of teachers protested and chanted at the first and silently disrupted the latter.
