Vanessa Redgrave supports people facing eviction (AP)

LONDON ? Actress Vanessa Redgrave is lending her support to a group of travelers who are facing eviction from their homes east of London.

The residents of Dale Farm are Irish Travellers ? similar but ethnically distinct from Gypsies, also known as Roma. Some of the Travellers had lived legally at the site for decades. But local authorities said new arrivals who came in 2001 did not have the right permits to live there.

After lengthy legal battles, a British court said last month that most of the 100 families living there had to leave within 28 days.

Redgrave will visit the site Tuesday. The residents are due to be evicted Wednesday.
